The First C - CARAT WEIGHT

Carat Weight | Cut | Color | Clarity

The standard measurement of gemstones is the carat. The carat is divided into 100 points. This is an international convention which any jeweler will recognize.

example: .50 carat = 50 points = 1/2 carat

Always try to find out exact weights. A pair of earrings can, according to the industry standard terminology, be advertised as 1/2 carat when the actual weight is .45 carat. One way to be sure you are getting the exact weight, is to ask the salesperson to weigh the loose diamond in front of you.

Diamonds are priced based upon their weight category. It is of major importance to know a diamond's exact weight in order to ascertain it's true value.
