MOKUME GANE

An extraordinary revolution in jewelry that actually originated in Japan over 1000 years ago. Mokume Gane means "wood-grain metal" and was discovered by Japanese swordsmiths.

Swordsmiths forged beautiful sword blades by folding colored steels into complicated "wood-gain" patterns. A blade forged from this complicated billet was of unsurpassed strength and exhibited a beautiful wood-grain surface.

George Sawyer Designs utilizes this same technique by combining a variety of gold colors with other metals resulting in exquisite patterns.
